Aug 3, 6PM Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden
Join us at 6PM on Monday Aug 3 for our next in-person meeting at the Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden at 1237 N Peck Ave, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266. The Botanical Garden is located immediately adjacent to Polliwog Park and the garden can be accessed through Polliwog Park – you may find easier parked along Manhattan Beach Blvd next to the Park.
MBBG is the ideal spot to engage with the CNPS Biodiversity in Urban Gardens (BUG) initiative, so be prepared with your iNaturalist app. The garden demonstrates rainwater harvesting and is home to many varieties of California native plants. It’s maintained by an all-volunteer garden crew. MBBG has a polinator habitat designation by the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation (xerces.org) and is designated on the Homegrown National Parks Biodiversity map. BUG Initiative Explained
Take photos of the native animals you see on, in, under, or around native plants, and upload them to the iNaturalist app.
- Download the free iNaturalist app in the Apple or Google store and create your account at iNaturalist.org.
- Join the two BUG projects on iNaturalist:
- Observations made in California public gardens that are already part of the BUG project will automatically get uploaded to the Biodiversity in Urban Gardens: California Public Gardens · iNaturalist project. See the list of participating public gardens.
- For observations you make at home, in neighborhoods, or anywhere else in urban habitats, you will need to join the Biodiversity in Urban Gardens: California Home & Neighborhood Gardens · iNaturalist project and then manually add your observations.
