Jan 31 Field Trip – Vernal Pools of the ELC

We heard from George Nanoski, the progenitor of the ELC vernal pools in September of 2025 (YouTube link, CNPS link, Instagram link) – now visit in-person!

Please email SouthCoastCNPS@gmail.com with your attendance so that we have an idea of total attendees. We just need a rough count, so if you are bringing family or friends you don’t need to be too precise about your numbers.  We’ve heard from a number of you already – thank you for your RSVPs!

George is excited to show you the habitat garden at the Elizabeth Learning Center, but wants you to know that it’s currently in a recovery phase due to some recent LAUSD ground crews that did unauthorized pruning and maintenance.

We’ll see a mix of chaparral, desert, and vernal pool habitats that are still bouncing back. It might not look fully lush yet, but it’s a living example of resilience and restoration.  This remarkable place is a rewilding success story, serving as a living laboratory for endangered native flora and fauna right in our own backyard. It is a rare opportunity to see these biological sanctuaries up close.  Don’t miss this chance to connect with local experts and witness the seasonal transformation of one of California’s most imperiled landscapes.
