Aug. 4th – 6PM @ Jack Dunster Marine Preserve

Join us on Aug 4th at 6PM for a in-person tour of the Jack Dunster Marine Biological Reserve in Long Beach.

The Jack Dunster Marine Biological Reserve is a 2.7 acre site containing 1.5 acres of land and 1.2 acres of shallow water constructed on the northwesterly side of the Los Cerritos Channel adjacent to the Rowing Center at Marine Stadium. It is a natural habitat created for recreational and educational opportunities for the public which includes Coastal Sage Shrub, Southern Beach, Coastal Marsh, Inter-tidal Mudflats, Rocky Inter-tidal and Sandy Bottom habitats. Expect shore birds, bring binoculars!  High tide is 6:39 PM PDT @ 5.51 ft. Sundown is at 7:50 PM.

I’m told that it’s a bit of a tricky place to get to.  The address is 5801 Boathouse Ln, Long Beach, CA 90803.   Give yourself a few more minutes to get there, park, and find our group than you might normally.

Our host and guide is Lenny Arkinstall, the founder and CEO of the Los Cerritos Wetlands Stewards, an environmental group that manages many environmentally sensitive areas in Long Beach including the Jack Dunster Reserve.  He is a visionary whose passion for the natural world has led to a successful, 30+ year career in natural resource management. Lenny is a problem solver with a strong track record of delivering results and he is a unique character and storyteller.  His empirical knowledge, leadership, and adaptive management approach have allowed him to play an integral role in the restoration and preservation of ecologically sensitive areas throughout Southern California.
