April 6, 2025, 10 AM – 4PM – South Bay Poppy Day Garden Tour
Invite Nature into Your Garden at the SCCNPS Garden Tour!
AFTERWORD: Thank you so much for being interested and participating in the 2025 South Coast CNPS Garden Tour. This was our first garden tour in many years, and the first that I’m aware of where we had over 100 tickets sold! Everyone that I met, both new acquaintances and old friends, had complimentary words for the tour. I was so pleased to meet people in gardens – in a place where you almost know you’re going to like everyone you meet and where we can share common interests. Thank you, South Coast Chapter residents and friends!
With the experience of our re-inaugural tour behind us, we will cogitate on ways to improve for next year. Rest assured that we did notice a few irritating snafus and did our best to respond on the fly. Our email is open to comments and to people who would like to share their gardens next year.

Join the South Coast Chapter of the California Native Plant Society for a journey through vibrant native plant gardens on Sunday, April 6th, 2025, from 10 AM to 4PM. Celebrate California Poppy Day while exploring innovative lawn-to-garden conversions and stunning homeowner creations. This one-day fundraising event will feature 9 gardens showcasing the ecological wonders and beauty of native plants, highlighting their water-saving qualities, low maintenance needs, and ability to attract local wildlife. We’ve kept the tour compact to reduce drive times: Gardens are located in Redondo Beach, Torrance, Gardena, and Hawthorne.
Let this tour inspire you to invite nature into your garden! Discover how simple changes can transform your backyard into a thriving habitat for birds, butterflies, bees, and other creatures while conserving water and celebrating California’s natural beauty.
Your tour includes:
- A private itinerary of participating gardens showcasing diverse styles and designs.
- Connect with fellow plant enthusiasts and learn from experienced gardeners and garden hosts.
- Support for the SCCNPS mission: Proceeds directly fund our efforts to conserve native plants, educate the public, and build a sustainable future for California’s unique ecosystems.
- Invitation to an after-party celebration (Poppy Hour starting at 4:00, with light refreshments) and open meeting (starting at 4:30 PM) at the Gardena Willows Wetland Preserve (find us inside the Wetland at Mother Nature’s Backyard) where local environmental expert Mike Garcia will talk about native plant gardening.
- A Poppy Day thank you gift of Eschscholzia Californica ‘maritima’ (Coastal California Poppy) suitable for planting in your yard (while supplies last) for each ticket holder.

Good luck with your garden tour!
I coordinate the Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour, which takes place in the SF Bay Area. This tour is now in its 21st year. If I can answer any questions for you in the future about how I run my tour, feel free to contact me.
Last year I had 60 gardens open over the course or two days, and more than 7,000 garden visits were made that week-end. (It would have been more than 10,000 garden visits, which is what I had the year before if there had not been a torrential downpour that lasted most of the first day of the Tour.)
