May 5, 10 AM Field Trip – Westwood Neighborhood Greenway (EventBrite Registration)

Get an real life preview of our May 6th monthly talk with Charles Miller at the Westwood Neighborhood Greenway.  Meet at the Westwood gate on the northwest side of the train.  Informational PDF linked HEREPlease register with EventBrite – in the event we are over-subscribed we’ll take registrants first and others on a space-available basis.

UPDATE: This is also an opportunity to acquire some native plants.  Charles writes, “…I have some free plants I’ll be offering for anyone who comes this Sunday (especially if they stay to help weeding!). I realize we are pushing past the planting season, but [the cost is right.  There’s] a variety of stuff, mostly in 4x4s, though some trees in starter tubes as well.”

The Greenway provides ecological services that clean air and water while providing habitat using native plants.  It cleans runoff water and spring water from an area of approximately 2,400 acres by diverting storm drain flows. Biofiltration and sunlight treat and clean the water.

See the abstract for our meeting on May 6th for more information and links about the Greenway.

We’ll start the tour at 10 AM and conclude no later than 1:00PM.  Navigate using this plus code: “2HPH+X8 Los Angeles, California” to the vicinity of the Greenway.  At the time of writing (4/10) we don’t know if we will meet at the East or the West Gates.  More information as we know it.  Transit time by car from San Pedro runs from 30 minutes to 55 minutes, depending on a variety of factors.

Parking could be tight – we suggest carpools if traveling by car.  The Greenway provides detailed information about parking and transportation on their website.

Those driving should carefully note neighborhood parking restrictions. Suggested places to park are noted on the map.

The Expo Bike/Ped Path lies on the south side of the tracks, adjacent to the South Greenway, should you need to get to or from Overland and Westwood.
