Eric Zahn & Elizabeth Lambe: Los Cerritos Wetlands – February 1, 2021
General Meeting – February 1, 2021
The Los Cerritos Wetlands Trust is a Conze grant recipient.
The effort to restore Los Cerritos Wetlands took a big step forward last month when the board of the Los Cerritos Wetlands Authority voted to certify the draft Program Environmental Impact Report for restoration of Los Cerritos Wetlands. This vote is the culmination of many years of planning for the restoration of Los Cerritos Wetlands that have included community meetings, public feedback, and expert analysis.
The certified environmental impact report for Los Cerritos Wetlands is part of the roadmap to a final and fully restored wetlands. Certification of the document will be followed by a public process to create an optimized restoration plan. Together, the Final PEIR and optimized restoration plan will enable the LCWA to seek funding for and commence restoration projects. A certified plan allows potential funders (both governmental and private) to have required information about how their funding will be implemented.
Speaking at our February 1st meeting will be Elizabeth Lambe, Executive Director of the Los Cerritos Wetlands Land Trust. She will speak about the role that the Land Trust played in advocating for protection of the Los Cerritos Wetlands over the years and specifically in the restoration planning process.
Eric Zahn, Principal Restoration Ecologist at Tidal Influence, was a key figure in moving forward the conceptual restoration planning process which resulted in the certification of the Environmental Impact Report for Los Cerritos Wetlands. He will share the details of the restoration process, what the next steps are and how the SCCNPS can help.
