Native Plant Week 2020
In 2010, the California State Legislature designated the third week of April to be California Native Plant Week. In recent years Rosalie Preston of our Chapter has given local dignitaries a bouquet of native plants to celebrate the week.
This year, the more socially distant approach was to send them a photo of a beautiful bouquet. We hope you too enjoy this virtual bouquet of flowers.
It includes our native state flower, the California poppy (Eschscholzia californica, and our native grass, purple needle grass (Nassella pulchra). There are nearly 6,500 different types of native plants throughout the state, making our state one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. A third of our plant species are found no where else in the world. Learn more at
