Volunteer Opportunities

• Organize habitat care activities
• Represent CNPS at city and public agency meetings
• Review EIR of development projects
• Act as point person for Angeles National Forest and National Monument Contact

The outreach committee chair is responsible to recruit and organize volunteers to represent CNPS-SGM at various local outreach events throughout the year.  The chair participates in CNPS-SGM board meetings, when possible.

Committee chair works in collaboration with the CNPS-SGM board.

Desired responsibilities for the Program  and Field Trip chair are:

• Lead the committee to develop program and field trip ideas of interest to the membership.
• Contact potential speakers.
• Coordinate program dates with the board.

All field trips are offered year-round, are open to the general public, and are offered free of charge. Field trips are offered in any of the SGM Chapter’s membership area of Los Angeles County, or perhaps even elsewhere in California.

Do you have ideas for programs you would like to see CNPS-SGM sponsor and would you like to help make those happen?
Are you excited to share your favorite natural area, park or trail with other native plant enthusiasts? Then consider offering to lead or co-lead a CNPS-SGM field trip. Field trips are offered year-round, are open to the general public, and are offered free of charge. Field trips are offered in any of the SGM Chapter’s membership area of Los Angeles County, or perhaps even elsewhere in California.

Desired responsibilities for the Program Coordinator(s) are:

• Develop program ideas of interest to the membership in collaboration with the committee chair.
• Develop field trip ideas of interest
• Coordinate program and field trip dates with the chair.
• Coordinate program and field trip publicity with the Publicity volunteer.

If you aren’t too sure about your native plant identification skills you may request to be paired with a CNPS-SGM plant expert. If your expertise is in birds, mushrooms, insects, ethnobotany, geology etc. rather than plants, related field trips are encouraged too!

Contributes articles, photos, book reviews, poems and other materials to the chapter newsletter.  Works with the newsletter editor.

Curate current events, news, and stories for display on the chapter website blog.

Volunteer at local outreach events around the San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles county,  Volunteers staff the tables and set up  displays for chapter outreach at community and educational events. (You do not need to be a plant expert!)

We hold an annual plant sale in November.  There are a number of opportunities to help including planning, advertising, setting up, and assisting on the day of the sale.
