Alluvial Plant Communities of the San Gabriel Mountains

Los Angeles is a very dynamic place in many senses: culturally, geologically, as well as being a biodiversity hotspot. The alluvial washes of this region are probably the most dynamic landscapes in Los Angeles. We will take a look into the plants of the alluvial scrub that are adapted to survive both flood and drought, and how they relate to a host of other natural processes including our unique climate and our rapidly rising San Gabriel Mountains.  

William Hallstrom, is a Certified California Naturalist and a California Native Plant Horticulturist (certified by TPF).  He works in those capacities at the Arlington Garden in Pasadena. He is a lifelong student in California ecology and pursues education about our unique plants, fauna, climates, and geology.
