Our Annual Plant Sale is on the Horizon: Volunteers Needed!
The Wonderful Native Plant Sale is coming up!
It may feel like it’s far, far away, but not so! This is the time to plan and choose what you’d like to help with! This sale funds our chapter’s key services, including student scholarships, monthly speakers, and conservation projects. It is a very important event for our chapter, and it’s fun, too! Please be part of our team!
The sale will be held on Saturday, November 14 between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the Monrovia Historical Museum. Current and new members receive a 10% discount!
Join us to shop for native plants, stroll among our fragrant sages and coyote mints, mingle with native plant lovers, talk to plant experts, buy our fabulous chapter T-shirts and more. We have two new colors this year for adults, marine and sage. For the children, have a new color, key lime, and additional sizes.
The nurseries’ stock always change from year to year, so it is always a treasure hunt. We will upload the preliminary plant list for this year’s sale soon. In the meantime, you can browse the 2025 list in anticipation of the new one!
At this time, we are looking for some fun and hard-to-find plants. If you have suggestions for plants you like to see on our list, (native Californian, of course), please let us know.
I am also very interested in finding out how the plants that you bought last year are doing. This helps us adjust our choice of plants. For instance; my pussytoes (Antennaria rosea) needs a bit of extra care. Come and share your plant experiences. Let us know about what you planted and how it’s doing!

The Plant Sale is a huge undertaking, and we also need your support to make it happen! We are looking for upwards of 50 volunteers to not only staff the sale on Saturday, November 11, but also to help set up the plants in the courtyard when they arrive on Friday, November 13.

Volunteer shifts are between 2-6 hours. You decide how much time you can give. We work in groups, so you will always have support close by. Come join in the fun!
Here are some of the roles needed to make the plant sale possible:
Friday, November 13 – Plant Delivery Day!
Note: Arrival time for the plants is, at this time unknown, but it is usually in the morning. Free lunch for all volunteers
- Unloading the plants from the delivery trucks
- Organize the plants in rows
- Properly label the plants
- Water plants
- Set up the tables and pop-up tents for the next day
Saturday, November 14 – Plant Sale Day!
Note: Free lunch for all volunteers
- Setup (8 a.m. – 9 a.m.)
- Direct traffic/parking
- Support customers with selecting plants
- Write up plant purchase slips
- Manage the plant holding area
- Coordinate the sale of seeds, shirts, garden signs, and books
- Conduct outreach for CNPS membership
- Checkout customers (cashier)
- Help to transport plants to customers’ cars, if needed
- Cleanup (2 p.m. – 4 p.m.)
