Tree People Bioblitz Sat March 21, 2026

This is the Kickoff Event for the Reforestation of the San Gabriel Mountains.  Reforestation events will follow.

TreePeople is beginning reforestation efforts at Charlton Flats, Alder Saddle, Bear Divide, and Guffy Campground in the Angeles National Forest every weekend (Fridays and Saturdays) with funding from the Rivers and Mountains Conservancy.  This project requires volunteer help in all stages of the reforestation process, including site preparation, planting, and maintenance.

The conifer forest in the San Gabriel Mountains was severely damaged by the 2009 Station Fire. Although replanting efforts followed, the 2020 Bobcat Fire burned many young saplings before they could reach fire-resilient maturity or produce seed. TreePeople will plant 7,000 seedlings of Jeffrey pine, Coulter pine, incense cedar, and bigcone Douglas-fir. These plantings will help restore the forest and reduce invasive species that contribute to increased fire hazards.

This is a great opportunity for any individuals or groups seeking volunteer, service-learning, and/or community service hours.

Those interested can register on TreePeople’s volunteer calendar under “Conifer Reforestation: San Gabriel Mountains.” They will kick off the program with a BioBlitz citizen science event on Saturday, March 21, from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM to help assess the current biodiversity at the site.
