Our Region

The Santa Cruz region is a spectacular area for California’s native plants, beautiful habitats from Monterey Bay up into the Santa Cruz mountains, and the creative people who live and love the area. Read about our plants and places to enjoy native plants and join in projects that help conserve our natural resources.

Native plants of our region

With the range of habitats and plant communities described in the links below, there are many species of native plants in the Santa Cruz County region to discover and learn. The website iNaturalist cites 2,322 plant species observed in the county and offers pictures to help guide you.

Our Places

Santa Cruz county has dozens of county parks to visit. Some are playgrounds with patches of wildflowers to admire as children play nearby. Others provide coastal access or forest trails to hike. There are also acres of public land to explore in our California state parks. Look for our posts on field trips and opportunities to hike with our CNPS chapter.

Our Projects

Restoring native habitats in the parks and protected lands of Santa Cruz County.

We are a volunteer group working to restore native habitats in the parks and protected lands in Santa Cruz County. Our program provides an opportunity for people to learn about the natural systems that surround them while helping to restore special and wild places. No prior work  experience is necessary, just show up at the event. We welcome individual volunteers from 8 to 80 years, as well as special group projects. Wear comfortable layered clothing, bring something to drink, and lots of enthusiasm! We work rain or shine, but if things get particularly unpleasant, we call it a day. Tools provided; bring gloves.
