Past Program: Bird Nests as Botanical Time Capsules

Justen Whittall, PhD (Santa Clara University Department of Biology) gave an incredible talk on “Bird Nests as Botanical Time Capsules” at the Santa Cruz County Chapter public program on Monday, April 13, 2026  at the UCSC Arboretum Horticulture Building.

Bird nests may seem ephemeral but in reality they can be timeless!
Come learn how nests represent a window to examine plants from the
specific place and time when they were built, unlocking information about the ecology of extinct habitats.

Plant identification workshop will start at 5:30 p.m. followed by a public meeting and Whittall’s presentation at 7 p.m.  Everyone is welcome!
