Past Winter Field Trips
Even in winter, it’s great to get outside with other plant lovers, whether to a park, a preserve, or the beach. Our February field trips included a five-mile hike at Mount Madonna Park in search of fetid adder’s tongue (Scoliopus bigelovii), a frolic in the forest in search of ferns in Fall Creek, and a visit to the diverse Sandhills Preserve at the Bonny Doon Ecological Preserve.

An upcoming March field trip will take a few lucky hikers to Henry Cowell Park with Andy Werner, Tuesday, March 18, 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We’ll hike 4-5 miles on terrain that is sometimes steep both up and downhill and there are sandy spots. Bring lunch/snacks, water, and hiking poles. The route will include most of the Pine Trail. Parking is free at the meetup spot, which parallels Graham Hill Rd. Take Graham Hill Rd towards Felton and go past the Horse Grounds; to the right will be Treetop Drive. Soon after Treetop, turn a hard left into the entrance of the driveway. Look for my tan Toyota Tacoma pickup. Contact Andy Werner at apwerner44@gmail.com for information and signup. Limit 12 people. No dogs.
