Evening Field Trip to Henry Cowell SP – Fall Creek Unit

Trip description: Dan Antonaccio was leader of the field trip to the Fall Creek unit of Henry Cowell State Park for an evening hike through the second-growth coast redwood forest. They followed the lush, fern-lined riparian corridor along Fall Creek in search of the stunning leopard lily (Lilium pardalinum), then visited the locally rare California lacefern (Aspidotis californica) and historic limekilns. This easy-moderate hike is roughly 3.5 miles long and has 500 ft of elevation gain. The hike was mostly in the shadow of Ben Lomond mountain.
