Our mission is to increase understanding and appreciation of California’s native plants and to preserve them in their natural habitats through educational and scientific activities and conservation efforts. Our chapter is dedicated to the plants and habitats of Santa Cruz county, from the kelp forests offshore and wetlands around the Pajaro River to redwood forests in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Chapter Supporting the Third Edition of the Annotated Checklist of the Vascular Plants of Santa Cruz County, California
The Santa Cruz County Chapter is providing a grant to support Dylan Neubauer’s effort to create a third edition of this invaluable resource expected to be published in 2027. We welcome your contributions to this worthwhile effort that will be the go-to resource for botanists and naturalists, government agencies, environmental non-profits, and students. Vascular Plants of Santa Cruz County

We welcome everyone: botanists and defenders of the environment and, of course, nature lovers to join our chapter activities. Check our posts for activities and information. Attend a meeting or join a field trip; you will meet interesting people and learn something new!

Land Acknowledgement

The land on which we gather is the unceded territory of the Awaswas-speaking Uypi Tribe. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, comprised of the descendants of indigenous people taken to missions Santa Cruz and San Juan Bautista during Spanish colonization of the Central Coast, is today working hard to restore traditional stewardship practices on these lands and heal from historical trauma
