Why Donate To Redbud?

I already pay to be a CNPS member. Why also donate to Redbud?
Your membership dues support the wonderful work of the CNPS state office in Sacramento. Virtually all Redbud activity is funded by money we raise ourselves.

How does Redbud get funds?

Our chapter activities are supported by our native-plant sales, book and merchandise sales, and your generous donations.

What does Redbud spend money on?

When you give, you can donate to Redbud without restriction. If you want to donate to a specific major Redbud activity listed here, just note that with your donation:

  • Scholarship fund.  Our Sierra College scholarship fund ($4000/yr)
  • Community grants.  Grants to support endeavors by schools and teachers, non-profits, researchers and individuals to advance public knowledge and appreciation of native plants. ($5000/yr)
  • Programs.  Venue rentals for our wonderful programs and honoraria to speakers ($5000/yr)
  • Redbud Nursery.  Nursery maintenance and buying additional plants for our plant sales ($12,000)
  • Reciprocity fund.  For California Heritage: Indigenous Research Project (CHIRP), a project guided by the Nevada City Rancheria Tribal Council of the Nisenan Tribe
  • Grants to aligned nonprofits.  To groups helping local native plants and their habitats, such as Sierra Nevada Alliance and the California Invasive Plant Council ($5000/yr)

Your donation today will help support these valuable programs and services that so enrich our communities and our lives and promote native plant awareness and understanding.

Employer-matching gift

Some companies make matching contributions to a qualifying non-profit organization to which an employee contributes. If you work for a company, inquire if they offer this and if you and Redbud are both eligible. If so, you’ll just submit a simple form to your employer. Then when you contribute to CNPS Redbud Chapter, your employer’s matching contribution may double your donation, or even more! This costs you nothing but benefits Redbud.

Donation jar at Redbud programs

Whenever you attend a Redbud program, think of the value you receive at that event. Then slip a few bucks into our donation jar at the Welcome table. It’s a quick and easy way to donate. To make this tax-deductible, write a check for any amount and put it in the jar.

Planned gift

Through your will, trust, retirement account, or life insurance policy you can make a legacy gift to Redbud Chapter as a lasting contribution. If you are over 70 ½, funds you contribute directly from a 401K or similar account to a nonprofit organization are not subject to taxation. (This is called a “Qualified Charitable Distribution”.) See info about legacy gifts from CNPS.

In-kind donation
