Creamcups (Platystemon californicus). A poppy family darling that loves thin soils in grassy areas.

Member Meeting + Plant Families of Nevada and Placer Counties

Presenter: Shane Hanofee

Virtual Event – 7 p.m. – November 17, 2021

This is the second of two member meetings related to chapter officer elections. At this meeting, we’ll vote on our next chapter officers, based on the nominations made at the preceding member meeting.

We’ll also have a presentation…and special fun! Join field botanist and Redbud Vice President Shane Hanofee as he walks us through the major plant clades and families that occur in the north and central Sierra and their foothills.

He’ll take us through the characteristics of a selection of the most common and species-rich families in the area, highlighting patterns that will help you recognize the plant life on your hikes and in your backyard. Members of these few families comprise the majority of the plant life here, so you’ll walk away being able to associate most plants you see with their family.
