Emergent Invasive Plants

OC CNPS’ Emergent Invasive Plant Program is especially focused on Emergent Invasive Plant detection, reporting and management. Our program performs extensive prioritization of invasive plants in and around Orange County that are newly discovered, still small populations, and are environmental threats. Such populations are amenable to being quickly removed and prevented from spreading.

This map is produced by our friends at Friends of Harbors, Beaches, and Parks (FHBP). It is the single best document for visualizing conserved areas in Orange County and immediately adjacent land.

 

Where Science Meets Conservation 

In 2025 May, anti-environment lobbyists tried to weaken the U.S. Endangered Species Act – again. In response, local botanist Ron Vanderhoff sent a comment letter. We are making this letter available because it articulately presents the importance of plants within the environment and the direct association between plants and habitat. This letter is an excellent introduction to why Science is directly associated to Conservation.
