Presentation
Kirsten Fisher will present an introduction to the biology of bryophytes, the group of land plants that includes mosses, liverworts, and hornworts. She will provide examples from her own research that illustrate the unique ecology and evolution of these amazing little plants.
Dr. Kirsten Fisher
…is a professor of biology Cal State LA, where she has been a faculty member since 2008.
Her research program focuses on the ecology and evolution of mosses, particularly species in the genus Syntrichia that have diversified in arid environments of the northern hemisphere.
Recent projects in the Fisher lab have explored moss species composition in Mojave Desert hypoliths (microhabitats under quartz pebbles), ecological genetics of the biocrust moss, Syntrichia caninervis, and patterns of hybridization in high elevation desert Syntrichia species.
