Meeting Description
Southern California is home to a plethora of habitats, which support a staggering amount of biodiversity. Today, we have many tools to capture images of that diversity, including smartphones, mirrorless cameras, and other camera types.
Join us as Bob Allen presents a tour of nature photographs threaded with a discussion of the fundamentals, including composition, lighting, observation, and how to find your subjects.
Extra! Extra! Show up early for a short photographic walkabout of the marsh. Since the formal meeting begins at 7 pm, let’s meet by 5:30 pm in front of the Duck Club.
Presenter Bio
Bob Allen is the lead author of the book Wildflowers of Orange County and the Santa Ana Mountains. He is a longtime teacher of college courses and workshops in natural history, entomology, botany, and nature photography throughout Southern California. He is also a founding member of OCCNPS.
An Orange County local, Bob grew up in historic San Juan Capistrano. He has hiked, studied, and photographed nearly every trail in our state and county parks and throughout the Santa Ana Mountains.
On the technical side, Bob is a published scientist and has been awarded the position of Research Associate by the California Botanic Garden, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, and the Jepson Herbarium at the University of California, Berkeley.
His favorite photographic subjects are native plants and native pollinating insects.
