Description:
This is a slow-paced hike among the thriving plant communities of Caspers, including oak woodland and sycamore canopies. We will begin with a brief introduction and moment to connect to the natural environment; the hike offers moving mindfulness while pausing to discover native plants and other wonders nature brings along the trails.
The last thirty minutes of the hike will close with a seated meditation.
Starting the hike near the old corral and historic windmill day use area, we will head out the Bell Canyon trail and end with the Nature Loop trail. This is a mixed trail route, starting with Bell Canyon, up Quail Run for the views, back down Quail Run to Bell Canyon to Nature Loop, ending back at the parking lot, approx. 2.5 miles total.
The last portion of our experience will be a seated, guided meditation practice in an area close to the parking lot. Please bring a chair and/or yoga mat, blankets, etc for seated meditation portion – last half hour by parking lot.
Important Note: Please allow enough time between arriving at the kiosk entrance of the park to drive to the red windmill/old corral day use area. Around 4:00 we will begin the seated meditation portion of the event.
What to Bring: Sturdy trail shoes/boots, water, hat, layered clothing, and optional: snacks, hiking poles, chair/blanket to sit on for meditation. A seated meditation will be at the end of the hike. Please bring a chair and/or yoga mat, blankets, etc.
Who can attend: Free and open to all interested in experiencing mindfulness and meditation in nature.
Entrance Fee: Caspers Park entrance fee is $5 per vehicle or OC Parks annual passes.
Hike difficulty: Advanced beginner to low intermediate due to elevation gain and rocky single track on Quail Run. Mix of single track and dirt road with some hills, rocky areas and uneven ground. Approx. 2.5 miles with 400’+ elevation gain.
Hike Guides: Rachel Whitt (socaljaguar6@gmail.com) and Jennifer Wong.
