March 25th - Del Puerto Canyon Field Trip

Join us for an exciting field trip to Del Puerto Canyon! If you have never experienced the canyon you are in for a treat. We will travel along the long winding road making many quick stops for short exploratory hikes and to admire the many blooming wildflowers along the road.
We will meet at the beginning of Del Puerto Canyon road in Patterson. There are very few bathrooms in the canyon so be sure to take advantage of the nearby starbucks or other rest stop areas beforehand. Once you get into the canyon there is no longer cell service.
Please bring water, lunch, and binoculars if you have them.

April 1st - Pollinator Festival
April 15th - Table Mountain Field Trip

Table Mountain, Jamestown (end of Shell Rd.)

Come explore the blooming spring wildflowers and learn about the geological processes that formed Table Mountain.We will meet at the Table Mountain parking lot at the end of Shell Rd (Please do not park next to the houses). This hike meanders through grasslands and oak woodlands before you reach the top where the rocky flats create vernal pools.
The hike will be about 3.8 miles, and is mostly a gentle steep grade. Except for the last half mile where the trail becomes steep and requires a bit of scrambling up rocks right before you reach the top. The view is well worth it! Please wear good shoes for hiking and walking around. Make sure to bring water, some snacks, and binoculars if you have them.

April 16th - Knights Ferry Recreation Area Field Trip

Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a nice sunny day for this field trip! Since many of you could not make our February trip to Knights Ferry due to the atmospheric river, we planned another! Come explore the local wildlife of Knights Ferry Recreation Area April 16th at 11am. This guided tour will introduce you to a wide variety of spring wildflowers, birds and more!
All ages welcome! Please bring water and binoculars if you have them! We will meet by the visitor center in the parking lot off of Covered Bridge rd. Please note there is a $10 parking fee for the lots (they also accept America the Beautiful passes). The trail is uneven due to water erosion, and the majority of the trail is uphill. Bathrooms are located in the parking lots as well as a pit toilet at the top of the trail.

May 13th - Red Hills Recreation Area Field Trip

Join at Red Hills Recreational Management Area on 5/13/23 at 9AM for a beautiful Mother’s Day nature walk. This area is incredibly special because of the serpentine soil that makes it hard for most plant species to survive. However it is still filled with lots of specialized plants that are able to tolerate the harsh conditions.
We will meet at the main dirt parking lot. All ages welcome! This walk will be easy and mostly flat. Bring water and binoculars if you have them!

July 8th - "Meadows of Yosemite" Field Trip
July 8th, 2023 at 7:30am (for carpool into the park from Oakdale)

Come travel to the mountains and experience the beauty of the forest meadows. This guided tour will introduce you to common wildflowers you can see throughout the park’s meadows. We will carpool from Oakdale, into the park where we will explore multiple meadows as we drive through the park to Tuolumne Meadows. You are welcome to meet us at the gate, please email cnps.nsj@gmail.com to coordinate this. Otherwise we can carpool to save on gas and the park entrance fee. Please meet at Tractor Supply in Oakdale (1580 E F St, Oakdale) by 7:30am!
This will be an all day trip, and will require walking through unpaved trails. Please bring water, snacks, sack lunch and binoculars if you have them. Also if you have motion/car sickness please prepare in advance! The windy mountain roads and high elevation can cause some sickness.
