A Revised Checklist for A Flora of Sonoma County
This Revised Checklist for A Flora of Sonoma County v. 1.0 represents over two and half years of work by John Mack and Peter Warner. While something short of a 2nd edition of the 1996 Flora, it does provide a detailed update and review of possible additions, deletions, and nomenclatural changes since the original flora’s publication in 1996. The Revised Checklist includes the following: 290 additions, 155 deletions, and 304 nomenclature changes (in App A); 240 taxa considered but not included (in App B); and 517 synonyms (in App C). The original A Flora of Sonoma County was published in 1996 by the California Native Plant Society, compiled by authors Catherine Best, John Thomas Howell, Walter and Irja Knight, and Mary Wells. A Flora included descriptions of 1392 native taxa and 529 introduced taxa for a total flora of 1921 taxa (the 1996 Flora). Despite a generation of nomenclatural changes and the revolution in digital access to collections and occurrences in the Jepson eFlora, California Consortium of Herbaria (CCH1, CCH2) and Calflora, the 1996 edition remains a practical go-to reference for floristic work in the County.
This Revised Checklist is intended as a supplement and cross-reference when using the 1996 Flora to provide a quick reference for current nomenclature and circumscriptions and a list of proposed additions and deletions to the 1996 Flora.
