Doran Beach Regional Park Salt Marsh and Dune Restoration

Meet at the Cypress Day use area at 201 Doran Beach Road, Bodega Bay. There is a $7 parking fee unless you have a Sonoma County Regional Parks pass. Carpool option: meet at the Sebastopol Lucky parking lot at 9:15 am, to leave by 9:30.
Alynn and co-chair Jan Lochner have been active volunteer leaders for ice plant removal and restoration for over 5 years, teaching and supervising hundreds of volunteers and community service members as they remove ice plant and other invasive plants at Doran Beach in cooperation with Sonoma County Regional Parks.
We will enjoy a tour of the restoration project on an easy path along the salt marsh (east of Cypress), and the dune area (west of Cypress). Alynn will show us native coastal dune plants in the restored habitat. The Milo Baker Chapter received a Gold Resolution award last fall from the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors for this project, which has shown tremendous success. With removal of invasive ice plant, the habitat for the Snowy Plover and other native species has been improved and sightings of critters are increasing. Alynn will explain the transformation and volunteer effort that occurs every Wednesday (from 9:30 – 11:30 am).
Bring a lunch, water, sun protection, and binoculars for bird watching if you want. Be prepared for fog and/or wind. The trail is flat and about a mile long.
