Invasives Removal Results in Increased Snowy Plover Count
Sheila Murphy, Wildlife Management Lead for Sonoma County Regional Parks sent this message to our Invasive Plant team recognizing the results of the work that they and their many volunteers have had on increasing the snowy plover population at Doran Regional Park.
“I wanted to let you know that we are continuing to document snowy plovers using the restoration area and the dune areas where ammophila has been removed. Last year our record high plover observation was 41 plovers. This year we have hit highs of 53, 59 and now 92 snowy plovers! The plovers really seem to be enjoying these rehabbed areas.”
You can help!! The Milo Baker Chapter of the California Native Plant Society (CNPS) has teamed up with CA State Parks and Sonoma County Regional Parks to improve native plant habitat by removing invasives from sensitive habitat areas.
