Chapter to be Awarded Gold Resolution

The Milo Baker Board proudly announces that on Tuesday November 5, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors will present the Chapter with a Gold Resolution for our ongoing restoration work at Doran Regional Park. Invasive Plant Co-chairs, Jan Lochner and Alynn Kjeldsen have ardently overseen the project for the last 8 years. Acres of salt marsh habitat and coastal dune habitat have been restored to its natural state after loads (and loads) of ice plant and dune grass has been removed. The project started initially with a single CNPS workday to pull ice plant out of the salt marsh where it was smothering a population of Point Reyes bird’s beak (California Rare Plant Rank 1B.2). From that workday, a few individuals had the ongoing perseverance to keep coming back. Now, on average we have 12-20 volunteers that show up each Wednesday (9:30 am – 1 pm) to continue improving the environment for native plants, insects, birds, reptiles, and mammals (including humans).

Please come celebrate the recognition of our volunteers’ hard work and dedication by attending the presentation of a Gold Resolution at Doran Park on November 15 at 10am at the Boardwalk (near the visitors center). Members of District 5 Staff will present the Gold Resolution and join us for a tour of our work at Doran Park, and if there is time, we will be pulling some ice plant!
