California Native Plant Society Scholarship Program

Los Angeles/Santa Monica Mountains Chapter (LA/SMM) – Deadline extended.  We need more applications!

Focus: This scholarship is intended to support a student who is currently studying conservation or plant sciences focusing on the local flora of Southern California.

Eligibility Requirements: – undergraduate or graduate college student who is currently engaged in the study of the local flora of southern California. Applicants do not need to be located in Southern California. This scholarship strives to expand access to conservation & floristics research. We encourage and enthusiastically welcome applications from BIPOC students, women, and other individuals from groups historically marginalized from academia.

Awardee Responsibilities: Once awarded the Scholarship, the awardee will be expected to fulfill one or both of the following criteria:

  1. Write a summary of progress made on their research to be published in the CNPS LA Online Monthly Newsletter – The Toyon
  2. Present a program on their research progress at a monthly Chapter meeting

Application Process: to apply for the scholarship please provide the following to  by June 30, 2024.

  • Your name, phone number, email address, degree program & academic institution
  • A short abstract describing your current research and how it relates to the native plant populations of Southern California.
  • In the header of your application please include “Conference Scholarship” as well as your full name.

Evaluation Process: After the submission deadline, members of the LA/SMM CNPS Chapter will review all applications. If you are to be a recipient of the scholarship, a member of CNPS will reach out directly to you to administer the award. We expect to award the funds in fall 2024.

Deadline: All applications must be submitted by June 30, 2024. The recipient will be announced in the fall of 2024.
