FIELD TRIP: Herring Creek

We’re going to the Herring Creek area to check out post-fire wildflowers in the October 2024 Peak Fire wildfire area. We’ll hike maybe three miles on a Forest Service trail to Herring Reservoir, with the burn area on the left side and unburned area on the right. Most of the drive is paved, but the last 1.5 miles is rough road. Sedans are not recommended. Bring plenty of water, snacks and lunch. Lunch at Herring Reservoir.

Hiking Level: Moderately easy at 7,500’ elevation

Meeting Place: Meet at the far end of the Twain Harte Market parking lot. To get there take the second Twain Harte exit off of Highway 108, go under the viaduct and then take the first or second right turn into the Twain Harte Shopping Center. We can arrange carpools from there if you want.

Time: Meeting time is 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
