FIELD TRIP: Bitter Root Bloom Stroll, Calaveras County

The field trip to see Bitterroot (Lewis rediviva) originally scheduled for Sunday March 16 has been rescheduled to Sunday March 23 to see best blooms. As of March 18, the Bitterroot plants were still in bud, but nearby there were many other species in bloom, such as numerous Padres’ Shooting Star. And there were also some mass displays of Goldfields, Triphysaria (Butter’n’Eggs), Sandwort, Tidy Tips, Frying Pan Poppies and Vernal Pool Popcornflower. Amongst nearby rock outcrops were Monkeyflower, Blue Dips, Phacelia, Woodland Star and Saxifrage. It really looks like Spring out there.

This is an easy 1/2 mile stroll to a Calaveras county location where Bitter Root (Lewisia rediviva) can be seen in bloom. The walk will be led by Karen Orso. Meet-up time will be 11 a.m.  Meeting place given to those that RSVP to keolhg@msn.com. Rain or overcast skies will postpone. (Bitter Root will not open unless skies are sunny.)
