In some Native languages the term for plants translates to “those who take care of us.”

A beautiful new edition of Flora is out. It includes a Guide to Defending Public Lands, as well as inspiring articles about native plant gardening and the 2025-26 CNPS Impact Report.
CENTRAL SIERRA CHAPTER (previously Sierra Foothills Chapter) is one of 35 chapters of the California Native Plant Society, a statewide nonprofit organization bringing together science, education, conservation, and gardening to power the native plant movement.
The Central Sierra Chapter serves Mariposa, Tuolumne, Calaveras and Amador counties and provides a local connection to the state organization and to our region. We invite you to come to our meetings, educational opportunities and field trips, learn more about our flora, join in citizen science projects, and meet people who share your interest in native plants.
When you’re a CNPS member, you help to preserve and protect California’s native plants and places for generations to come. Members receive many benefits including free subscriptions to CNPS publications, access to fun activities, discounts, and more. When you join CNPS, select Central Sierra (previously Sierra Foothills) as your chapter and you will receive regular news of our local activities and help support our mission and vision.
If you would like to receive the chapter newsletter, please send an email request to: centralsierra@cnps.org and enter ‘Join Newsletter’ in subject line.
