We were based at a very nice venue just outside the national park, Saint Anthony Retreat Center. We were able to explore right on their grounds and see beautiful terrain including a lawn full of ephemeral bryophytes and a stream with a waterfall. Bryophytes were rich and abundant. Groups were able to collect at several locations within Sequoia National Park, primarily in the foothill zone where valley fog hits the rock outcrops and oak savannahs. The geology included marble as well as granitics. Some groups also visited the mid-elevation conifer forest zone, including giant sequoia groves and rich riparian habitats, up to the snow line at about 6,000 ft.
