March 28 – 31, 2014
Santa Cruz Mountains, California

Organized by Ken Kellman

The 2014 SO BE FREE was held in the Santa Cruz Mountains approximately 1.5 hours south of San Francisco. We visited locations rich in limestone and marble, as well as marine sandstone deposits, supporting a number of rare endemic bryophytes. Habitats seen included coastal prairie, coast redwood forest, live oak forest, and chaparral scrub. Ken Kellman has a special interest in the bryoflora of Santa Cruz County and more information can be found at www.bryolog.com.

We were based at YMCA Camp Campbell, 5 minutes north of Boulder Creek, which was a great venue with plenty of meeting space and good trails for the beginner walk right on the property. A great time was had by all!
